Posting on a website can be like shouting into the void. Or being a tree in a forest that no one is around to hear fall. Unless people know about it, have a consistent audience and/or point to it often from social platforms you are mostly posting into the void.

I don't think this was the case pre social media, at least in terms of the ratio of total people on the internet and total readers of websites. But for this past 20 or so years in the social platform era the value of a website for blogs and posting without actively pointing to it is a pretty hard thing to pull off.

Over the next few years I think that may actually change quite dramatically, and yes this is because of the rise of AI. The complexity of creating, hosting and posting to a website has gone down by orders of magnitude. With some simple prompts and a domain name you can get to a personal website in a matter of minutes. I'm actually writing this essay right now via discord and it feels as easy as writing a tweet. I'll press send and my personal agent will take it, run a codex session and get it deployed onto the site. It'll probably catch 5-10 typos as I do that too which is nice.

The complexity of making websites has gone way down, but that still leaves a huge problem: distribution. A new domain and blog could have literal alpha and right now it would likely not get discovered by default. You will be posting into the void. This is the other half of my bet: as agent traffic continues to increase and intelligence continues to get smarter and smarter this void will go from being emptiness (aka no distribution) to efficient distribution (it will find who it should increasingly quickly) with no effort required on the publisher. If you wanted to get a bit philosophical the void actually goes from nothingness to everything in the sense that it's going to the all seeing eye of AI.

Now this prediction is quite simple because what I am describing is how platforms like TikTok and X function today, the right content from a brand new profile can find large audiences very quickly. So it's technically already happening within those platforms. I am suggesting that this will naturally emerge across the internet and its websites as a whole. As more people adopt agents in their day to day life, and those agents (and new tools for agents) make it extremely easy to get people the most pertinent and interesting information specifically to them.

So while I am essentially posting into the void right now, I am pretty sure that an exponentially increasing number of agents (and some subset of their users) will be reading this in the future. The amount of distribution it gets will be a function of how valuable or useful this essay actually is, which could be debatable, but I think it'll at least get looked at and the agents will make that call.

My sense is that there is a lot of opportunity here from a product, business, and investing perspective, but the simplest way to capitalize on this is to simply start posting on your own website now. Worst case you're sharpening your own thinking through the exercise of writing (which is something that tends to compound amazingly in and of itself), best case you're accruing a substantially larger than expected audience due to the restructuring of the internet around agents, and probably contributing to the weights and knowledge of future models (and therefore humanity to some extent), which is pretty cool.
